Watchman Anointing

The Watchman Anointing

A vision for the end time church

"Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching."  Luke 12:37

As the earth trembles and shakes with terror, violence, wars, rumors of war, earthquakes, and famines, there is clear sense of an alarm that has sounded in the heavenlies to awaken the church.  We are in an unprecedented time of change, challenge, and crises.  In the wake of terrorism, conflict, and earthly devastations, a new desire and need is rising in the body of Christ to know what to do to help the Kingdom advance when our lives, livelihood, morals and values are being challenged, shaken and even rejected.   It is as if the Church has been caught in the crossfire of an unwanted supernatural war and is now grappling for roots to help it win the battle it now faces.
However, God is going to use His church to bring victory in the days ahead.  He is coming for a glorious and victorious bride.  There is now a necessary time that is upon us to understand how to reverse this course of discouragement and devastation. In the turmoil of these times, God is moving to fulfill His promise of Isaiah 54:16-17 Behold I have created the blacksmith who blows the coals in the fire Who brings forth an instrument for his work;  And I have created the spoiler to destroy.  No weapon formed against you shall prosper,  and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.  This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me.  God is now restoring the vital function of the “watchman” to the body of Christ as we face these most challenging of times.  It is a weapon God is raising up to arouse the church, warn and protect it in days of challenge and conflict.
This weapon is a move that speaks to the fulfillment of Jesus’ exhortation to the church in Luke12:37 Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching.   Amos 3:7 promises, Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.  This move will be characterized by a close and intimate walk with Jesus, a deep personal revelation of the cross and resurrection, and an urgent vigilance towards God’s purpose and will to be made manifest in the earth.  It is a call of God to the church to become its ultimate destiny as His bride.

The Vision
Over the years, I have had a repeated vision that speaks to an end-time move of God of the “watchmen.”  The vision is of Jesus on a high cliff looking out over a ravine.  Next to him on a rock is a very large eagle.  Jesus' hand is on the eagle’s feet as they both look out over the ravine.  The eagle’s head is face to face with Jesus and they seem to be intently looking out over the ravine below.   In the vision, their backs are to me and they seem very much engaged with what they are seeing.  There is no striving but rather a sense of true friendship and enjoyment in just being together.  In the ravine are formations of various eagles already flying and pursuing different activities.  This eagle, however, does not leave its position on the rock and stays next to Jesus.
In this vision, it is important to note several parallels that will mark the “watchmen” He is raising up as follows:
  • First of all, the relationship between Jesus and the eagle is very close and intimate. The eagle and Jesus do not waiver or move as they watch intently the massive ravine below them.  Their vision conveys a peace and rest in the fact that they are very much aware of what is occurring below them, yet immovable in their place.
  • There is a genuine trust of the eagle as Jesus’ hands are on its feet.  Jesus’ hands and feet are pierced but with his firm grip on the eagle’s feet and genuine joy in the relationship, there is no evidence of pain.
  • The eagle seems to be ever mindful and respectful of the nail pierced hands and does not move his feet to dismantle the hands.  It is content to be on the rock under the firm grip of Jesus’ hands.
  • There is a readiness in their stance and gaze that does not convey complete ease, but rather a readiness to move.
Over the years, I have come to identify with the vision as a reality in my personal walk yet also with a sense that it is more than a personal walk. The vision relays a move of a watchman anointing that God is going to release over the earth to restore mankind’s destiny to “tend and keep” the garden He has given them.  The people He will be calling will be a people who have over the years developed a deep and intimate relationship with Jesus.  The depth of the relationship between these “eagles” and Jesus keeps their feet firmly planted on the rock.  The “rock” is defined scripturally in David’s song after being delivered from his enemies and the hand of Saul in 2 Samuel chapters 22 and 23 as the following:
  • Deliverer:  The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer. 2 Sam 22:2
  • Strength and power:  For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God? God is my strength and power, and He makes my way perfect. 2 Sam 22:32-33
  • Salvation:  The LORD lives! Blessed by my Rock! Let God be exalted, the Rock of my salvation.  Sam 22:47
  • Light of revelation:  The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me; He who rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.  And He shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises, A morning without clouds, like the tender grass springing out of the earth, By clear shining after rain.   2 Sam 23:3-4
The picture of the eagle’s feet firmly planted on the rock is a picture of a people who have learned to know God as their rock and source of salvation, strength and revelation. With their respect towards Jesus’ crucified hands on their feet represents a respect and fellowship with His sufferings.  They have learned at least in part to understand and respect the power of the cross in their lives.
The vision speaks to a soon coming release of this needed part of the body of Christ as birth-pains of end-time tribulations are displayed before us.  Matthew 24:6-8 warns, And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars, See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet, for nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.  And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places.  All these are the beginning of sorrows.  These signs signal much of what has been spoken of scripturally before the return of Jesus Christ. Watchmen are being called out to prepare the church as a bride radiant and ready for her groom.  Jesus said, Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching.  Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.  And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.  Luke 12:37-38

The Church’s End-time Mandate
The trumpet is sounding!  A shift is taking place.  The past season of watching and waiting is turning into action.  It is time to call the watchmen out of the cave, and take on new armor.   The past season of earthquakes, shakings, particularly since the devastation of 9/11/2001, a watchman call has been released.  Now, with the intensity of the times, we are shifting into a season of the "watchman response."  It is a different stance.  It moves beyond the waiting and watching and requires mobilization and action.  The biblical precedence that parallels the issues we are facing today is in 2 Chronicles 22:10-23:11.  The story depicts the mobilization, and placement of strategic "watches" during the reign of Athaliah who was killing the children of inheritance, and they went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah and the chief fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem, 2 Chronicles 23:2.  As the watches were established, the result is in 2 Chronicles 23:22, when the true king was ushered in, "Long live the king!"  Similarly, today there is a unique call and mobilization in the body of Christ for the watchmen, much like they did in Israel during that time. Watchmen arising, joining rank, readying their lamps, sounding the trumpet, will be an endtime mobilization that is not just a ministry, but a bridal call to the body of Christ.  Out of the persecution and tribulation, a spotless glorious alert bride will arise.  As watchmen emerge from their cities, regions, and nations, they are paving the way for the true King to return..."Long live the True King, the One and only, Bridegroom and Redeemer!"   Song of Solomon 3:3 relays a picture of this role, The watchmen who go about the city found me;  I said, have you seen the one I love?  Scarcely had I passed by them, when I found the one I love.  I held him and would not let him go.  The scripture is a prophetic picture of the watchmen pointing the church towards its first love.
As watchmen move into a response mode, a great awakening is happening that is shaking comfortable patterns of the past.  New times require new tactics and new strategies of war.  Watchmen with visionary focus are key to this awakening.  The sons of Isaachar will know the seasons and what Israel (the body of Christ) ought to do (1 Chron 12:22).  Visionary accuracy, the watchman anointing, is critical for the transition and times we are in.  Afterall, it was Jesus’ very own words that exhorted His followers in Luke 12:35-40 Let your waist be girded and your lamps burning; and you yourselves be like men who wait for their master, when he will return from the wedding, that when he comes and knocks they may open to him immediately.  Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching.  Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them. And if he should come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.  But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.  Therefore you also be ready, for the son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
Watchmen arise!  Take your place.  The trumpet is sounding!
